Darcy Melendez has built a 30-year career in economic, community and workforce development since graduating with her BSW in Norman in 1981. She worked as a Director in the areas of Business Development, Project and Program Management and Regional Development for a cumulative 15 years at the Tulsa Regional Chamber of Commerce. Corporate experience includes 6 years at WorldCom MCI (now Verizon) as Manager of Corporate Training and Development providing design/delivery of management, leadership and team training across US operations. Her pinnacle career move was becoming Executive Director at Workforce Tulsa, providing leadership and progressive program implementation for the Tulsa Workforce Investment Board. After two years “at the top” Darcy changed course to achieve some badly needed life-balance. New course direction led to social services and giving back to the community she loves. Darcy spent time in grant writing and coordination at Child Abuse Network (CAN) and is currently working as Operations Manager at the Family Safety Center, a collaborative of co-located professionals serving victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking and their families.
Darcy comments, “Although in administration, I interact with clients, front-line service providers and organizational leaders daily, assisting in problem solving and process improvement. I use my core Social Work knowledge, values, ethics and skills every day! Knowledge of systems theory and practice has been critical to my career success.”
Darcy was married for 30-years to her late husband and Sooner legend, Jaime Melendez, a two time NCAA Champion in Sooner Football. Jaime lost an intense battle with cancer in 2013.
