The Anne and Henry Zarrow School of Social Work will provide up to three scholarships to the Oklahoma Policy Institute (OPI) Summer Institute program. This includes one undergraduate student, one graduate student from Tulsa and one graduate student from Norman.
Scholarship application deadline: May 23, 2016
The OPI Summer Policy Institute gathers both undergraduate and graduate students from Oklahoma colleges and universities in a multiday event that offers:
• Seminars, panels, workshops, presentations by policy experts from government, academia and community organizations
• A focus on relevant and important policy issues in Oklahoma
• An opportunity to learn about the state legislative process, budgeting, taxes and policy topics
• An opportunity to interact with a diverse group of students from all over Oklahoma and engage in innovative and interactive group projects.
Full details on the OPI Summer Institute can be found at here, and students can download the scholarship application here.
Please note: application to the OPI Summer Institute is separate from application to the scholarship provided by the Anne & Henry Zarrow School of Social Work. Be sure to complete both processes in their entirety. The 2016 Summer Policy Institute (SPI) will be held July 31 – August 3, 2016 in Tulsa.
Past participants had this to say about the experience:
"The Summer Policy Institute was a unique opportunity to learn from crucial leaders in our communities and collaborate with students across the state. I feel so blessed to have been able to participate and grow both personally and professionally from SPI. As social workers we have to be engaged in policy at all levels as it directly impacts our profession and the lives of our clients. A huge thank you is due to the Oklahoma Policy Institute for creating such an empowering program and to the Social Work Department for making it possible for me to attend!" - Kate Quinton, current MSW student
"I had the opportunity to attend Oklahoma Policy Institute’s Summer Policy Institute two years ago. At the time I knew a little bit about policy and thought the SPI would be an opportunity to learn a little more. What I learned there changed my life. My passion for policy and advocating for vulnerable populations was ignited! Not only did I absorb more knowledge than I knew what to do with, I made connections that will last a lifetime. The people I met there are the future leaders of Oklahoma and the network I made will help me be successful. I would encourage anyone who wants to know about how policy impacts vulnerable Oklahoman’s to apply for this fantastic institute." – Raquel Conway, 2016 MSW Graduate
