Sooner Social Workers Mentoring Program

The Anne and Henry Zarrow School of Social Work believes in furthering the social work profession through mentoring. Alumni and Board of Visitors members are encouraged to sign up to be mentors. All current students are encouraged to sign up to be mentored.  

Social Work mentoring involves receiving information, resources, and professional support for:

  • Understanding of practice specialization opportunities
  • Recognition of, and strategies to address, professional development needs
  • Navigation of workplace dynamics
  • Insight on career transitions
  • Identification and enhancement of professional strengths
  • Identification with the profession

Interested? The mentoring program will be initiated each fall using the process below. 

  • Sign up to be a mentor by filling out this survey
  • Sign up to be a mentee by filling out this survey
  • Mentor and mentee are matched by the school based on location and areas of interest
  • Mentee contacts the mentor within 30 days
  • Mentee should take responsibility for leading the relationship
  • The first meeting should occur within one month of initial contact
  • Mentor and mentee maintain monthly contact via email, phone, or face-to-face meetings

What's the schools role in the mentoring process? The school will facilitate by doing the following: 

  • Orientation meeting
  • Nature of the mentoring process
  • Outline ideal timing of process throughout academic year
  • Matching Mentor and Mentee
  • Conducting regular check-ins regarding progress of mentoring relationship
  • Hosting annual networking event
  • Annual evaluation of program
