Steven P. Wells has worked in the field of family and children services since 1976 as a child welfare worker, family mediator, foster parent trainer, group counselor, and university professor. Dr. Wells is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Oklahoma. He earned his doctorate in 2006 specializing in early childhood education, and conducted his dissertation research on the topic of foster parent involvement in the education of children in foster care. His interests include child sexual abuse, foster parent training, family mediation, child welfare pre-service and in-service training, children with disabilities and their families, and Motivational Interviewing. He currently holds the rank of Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Oklahoma Anne and Henry Zarrow School of Social Work and serves as Simulation Coordinator for the Norman campus. He teaches courses in social work practice and interviewing skills. He received a “Champions of Children Award” in 2008 from The Foster Care Association of Oklahoma, Inc., and was named Undergraduate Adviser of the Year in 2012 by the O.U. College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Wells is married to a social worker and is the parent of four children. Most recently, he has worked collaboratively with a variety of allied health agencies as a trainer and consultant to assist service providers with improving their responsiveness to families.
