Student Blogger - Chris Chase
Hello! My name is Chris Chase. I am in my 2nd year of foundation year as a part time student at OU-Tulsa. I am in my practicum placement with the field unit of Developmental Disabilities Services Department. I am also a Graduate Research Assistant working on an Aging in Place study. I have 5 children from ages 7-16. Of those 5 children, 3 live with their mother in Virginia and the other two live with my wife and myself. I decided to pursue my Master of Social Work in part because I wanted to work with Veterans. All the jobs that I wanted required that I have a Master in Social Work. Since being accepted to the program I have been involved in the MSWSA, which has allowed me to do the monthly meetings and Project Clothesline. I have taken the required electives for the Women’s and Gender Certificate. My practicum is with the Developmental Disabilities Services Department with DHS. I am learning the process for setting up individuals on an Individual Plan and how a case manager handles a case. I am learning a ton about social work with individuals with special needs.
